Ombre Portée - Light and Sculpture

As if Miro or Picasso had designed luminaires: For over two decades, the Parisian studio Ombre Portée has been synonymous with extraordinary light sculptures in the interplay between art, design and architecture.

The studio, which was significantly influenced by artist and designer Éric de Dormael, has made an international name for itself with exclusive luminaires for upmarket interior design. As the name ‘Ombre Portée’ (cast shadow) suggests, the plasticity of the objects and the targeted positioning of the light sources make shadows an integral part of the works. The sometimes filigree, sometimes monumental light sculptures thus appear less like functional lighting and more like three-dimensional drawings. The central material is brass, which reflects soft light in a brushed finish or creates lively plays of light when highly polished. Each of these extraordinary objects is a testimony to French craftsmanship.
