Description

The design of this iconic pendant light is based on the classic industrial design of the so-called ‘Luzette’, which was originally designed around 1908 by Peter Behrens as a factory light for the Siemens factory halls (hence also known as the ‘Siemens light’). After the First World War, the “Siemens Luzette” became a widely used luminaire in Germany for functional general lighting, for example in large offices and hospitals.

“Distinctly semi-indirect light distribution, strong upwards, soft downwards, no glare. A bright and evenly lit white ceiling. Excellent, almost shadowless lighting at workstations.” – this is how the 1928 Siemens & Halske catalogue described the lamp’s advantages, which remain valid to this day.

With its elegant form and metal fittings, the lamp is a stylish addition to both private and public, prestigious spaces.

As with the historical original, the luminaire can also be fitted, on request, with a combination of glossy opal and frosted etched matt, semi-transparent glass (top/bottom, see images).

Both provide a soft, low-glare light distribution: white opal glass offers greater diffusion and a softer light output, whilst etched matt glass provides a higher direct light output.

As standard, both shade sections are supplied in glossy opal white.

The luminaire is suspended from the ceiling rose via a suspension tube.

  • On request, the suspension tube can be shortened or extended (up to 150 cm) (at extra cost, custom-made to order).
  • Available on request with a height-adjustable telescopic rod (56 cm to 105 cm without shade, for one-time adjustment during installation).

Material: matt nickel-plated brass, overlaid (two-layer) mouth-blown opal glass (also available in frosted etched matt semi-transparent glass on request)

Total height: 110 cm (modifications possible)
Glass diameter: 32 cm
Glass height: 34 cm

About the manufacturer

From the design-savvy Netherlands, these brass lamps come in the style of early Art Déco (in French short for art décoratif = decorative art). Their timeless designs make these luminaires an excellent addition to both historical and modern surroundings. Clear, puristic designs such as stepped glasses and glass holders are their main characteristics – with all the attention to detail; Shapes that also show in time-typical architecture of the 1920s and 1930s, such as the Chrysler Building in New York. These designs reinterpret the language and the emergence of geometrical-abstract painting (Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, etc.) in architecture and design of the 1920s.

All lights by Collectie Art Déco are made of brass with different surfaces and usually feature hand-blown, overlaid (two-ply) opal glass or frosted glass with decor cutting. The former provide glare-free lighting with maximum light transmission – a standard in Dutch functionalism.
