Alabastro Italiano was founded by brothers Alberto and Riccardo Ongarato in Padua after gaining years of experience within the renowned family business Ongarato Bespoke Lighting. They now focus on designing and crafting timeless and luxurious lighting fixtures made from precious materials – in particular alabaster, a mineral with fascinating translucent qualities. Blurring the boundaries between solid matter and light reflection, alabaster is often fondly perceived as a “magical” material. Italian alabaster, mainly quarried in the Tuscany and considered being the highest quality in Europe, can only be brought to life through dedicated human refinement by experienced craftsmen who have mastered the processing of this rare soft stone. Every finished product – or one may say “lighting sculpture” – gains its charm from its unique grain structure and tint and is therefore one of its kind.
