Description

Small pendant light with a spherical glass shade (Ø 15 cm).

This simple spherical pendant light becomes a timeless lighting solution thanks to its minimalist opal glass sphere (screw-fit glass shade). The spherical glass shade sits on a Bakelite bracket, which houses a high-quality E27 metal socket. The high-quality opal glass shade ensures even, glare-free light diffusion.

In the mid-20th century, this type of light was the typical functional light for non-representative rooms, such as cellars, storerooms and garages. Today, this traditional pendant light is valued for its minimalist, timelessly authentic character.

The trademark ‘Bakelite’ became famous as the first synthetic, industrially produced plastic. This thermosetting plastic is electrically insulating and resistant to mechanical stress, heat and acid, making it highly suitable for luminaires and other electrical components.

Material: opal glass, phenolic resin plastic (‘Bakelite’), textile cable

Glass sphere diameter: 15 cm
Total height: approx. 150 cm (can be shortened, longer versions available on request)
Canopy Ø: 11 cm

Light source: 1 x E27, max. 40 watts
We recommend opal or satin-finish LED bulbs for this light.

About the manufacturer

From the design-savvy Netherlands, these brass lamps come in the style of early Art Déco (in French short for art décoratif = decorative art). Their timeless designs make these luminaires an excellent addition to both historical and modern surroundings. Clear, puristic designs such as stepped glasses and glass holders are their main characteristics – with all the attention to detail; Shapes that also show in time-typical architecture of the 1920s and 1930s, such as the Chrysler Building in New York. These designs reinterpret the language and the emergence of geometrical-abstract painting (Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, etc.) in architecture and design of the 1920s.

All lights by Collectie Art Déco are made of brass with different surfaces and usually feature hand-blown, overlaid (two-ply) opal glass or frosted glass with decor cutting. The former provide glare-free lighting with maximum light transmission – a standard in Dutch functionalism.
